Moses resigns as Ogden High School’s head softball coach

There is a saying within sports circles that you always want to go out on top. It’s every player’s aspiration and every coach’s dream to end their career – whether it’s high school, college or professional realms – with a championship.

Ogden head softball coach Mike Moses achieved just that, guiding the Bulldogs to the school’s first team state championship.

Ogden baseball team carves out a decent season

Even though they went into the 2020 season needing to do some rebuilding, veteran head coach Dick Smith’s ‘Boys of Summer’ ended up with a pretty decent effort for the year. The tightened their belts, adjusted their caps and did what they knew they had to do for success. As the team grew together the wins came. In short, they made the best they could out of a difficult situation and that’s all we can ask of them.

Kolby Moorman is named to All-District baseball team

Bulldog baseball player Kolby Moorman admits that he was surprised to be chosen for the All-District Baseball Team for the Central region by the Iowa Baseball Coaches Association.

“I was competing with a lot of other talented players,” stated Moorman. “I was extremely happy and excited when I learned I had received this award.” He led the Bulldogs in batting with a .373 average, and was tops on the team in hits and tied for the lead in runs scored. His prowess on defense led to a team-leading assist total.

Bulldog softball tournament trail starts and ends with a win

Following a season schedule that had mostly its up’s but a few down’s, the still rated Bulldogs focused on starting over by hosting a first-round Class 2A, Region 4 game versus Clarion-Goldfield-Dows from the North Central Conference. Even though the Cowgirls only had three wins on their season, they were coming into this game as an improving team. They were still no match for the Bulldogs, who had their focus on a trip to state while still taking it a game at a time.

IHSAA announces revised high school football schedule

To better prepare for the 2020 varsity football season, the Iowa High School Athletic Association has developed a revised schedule plan, which allows for member school adjustments due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Football remains the only high school sport with regular season schedules and postseason qualifying managed by the IHSAA. The revised plan considers flexibility for school return concerns, geography, postseason qualifying, transportation and possible COVID-19 cases as rationale for changing previously announced varsity football schedules.

Bulldogs are 2A state softball champs!

When it came down to the 2A championship game at the state softball tournament, the Ogden Bulldogs relied on what’s carried them through this entire season. That is strong pitching, timely hitting and great defense to back up Denali Loecker. It turned out to be more than enough in grabbing their first state softball title, and first ever state title in any sport for the school, in the 6-1 win over two-time defending champ North Linn (Troy Mills).

Bulldog baseball finishes schedule, then enters districts

The Ogden baseball continued to try hard to pick up both wins and more experience as their schedule wound down and they prepared themselves for postseason tournament play.

Last Tuesday saw them host Madrid, losing 8-1 to the Tigers. Scott Westberg ripped a double to bring home Kolby Moorman for the lone score. Sam Christensen stroked two base hits as the only other connections. Westberg, Christensen and Dylan Elbert all drew a free pass each, with Ethan Snedden stealing a base.

Ogden softball scores huge win over Madrid

Last Tuesday the Ogden softball team hosted Madrid, and were not exactly a congenial host in taking a 17-0 win. Loecker pitched yet another perfect game as the Tiger bats were completely shackled. She also aided her cause with another homerun as well, a three-run round tripper. The first inning barrage of runs started with Meredith Adreon getting a base hit, with Loecker then walking to first. Jenna Palmer blasted a double to score both, followed by Gabby Ross reaching on an error. Dutcher walked, setting up Reagan Church’s sac fly to score Ross.

Bulldogs take extra inning win over ACGC

Last Monday, June 22, the Ogden Bulldogs hosted Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center and squeaked out a 4-3 win over the Chargers in eight innings. The game was tied 1-1 after four complete frames, with the home team pushing across on score in the fifth to take the lead. The visitors tied it at 2-2 in the top of the sixth, and that’s where the scoreboard stood after seven were in the books. The Chargers plated one in their half of the eighth, but the Bulldogs were able to bring two across to pull it out.

Lady Bulldogs suffer first two losses of year

The Ogden softball team is currently enjoying winning so much, and who wouldn’t, that they kept it going strong this past week. That is until they ran into a couple of teams at a tournament in Boone that tagged them with their first losses of the season.
